Cameron, you have now been affiliated with TAG Heuer for a year – tell us about your relationship with the brand and the company:
Cameron Diaz: It has been a wonderful experience so far. I have learned so much about watchmaking. I was fortunate enough to visit the TAG Heuer factory in Switzerland, where I met the amazing men and women that strive to think out of the box when it comes to measuring time. I feel very much a part of the company.
You are introducing a new timepiece that is part of a unique set bearing your name, the TAG Heuer Link Lady Trilogy – Cameron Diaz Limited edition. How involved were you in the design of the set?
CD: We have been discussing this idea from the beginning of our relationship and began working together on the designs this summer. The incredible artists at TAG Heuer have allowed me to give my input and everyone has made the experience a very collaborative one. We all agreed that the design should set the piece apart from the existing collection yet remain true to the S-shape design of the Link and it evolved into the special bracelet that matches the watch, which I love.
Tell us about the inspiration behind the Link Lady Trilogy:
CD: The watch is the centerpiece, based on the Link design, with a black mother of pearl dial and my signature engraved on the backcase. It comes with a bracelet, which reflects the design of the Link, but is thinner with only one row of links, and a matching ring. I feel it’s a concept that is playful, yet elegant: you can wear either the watch alone or with the accessories to create a different look. I’ve always said I regard my watch as one of my favorite pieces of jewelry and this brings that concept to life.
How does the Trilogy reflect the TAG Heuer brand?
CD: TAG Heuer is known as a quality luxury brand and I wanted my limited edition to reflect that sensibility. I wanted to help create a set that a woman would feel was very special.
You visited TAG Heuer’s manufacturer in March this year. Did this visit influence your input in the design of the piece? What did you take home from this visit?
CD: It was my first time visiting a watch manufacturer and was amazing to witness the level of precision watchmaking requires. I admire the focus these artists can hold all day long, working on such intricate pieces to create the movements of the watches. Everyone I met that day made me feel welcome and very much a part of the TAG Heuer family.
The Link Lady Trilogy is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for UN Women. Can you tell us more about the campaign?
CD: a portion of the proceeds from the sales of this limited edition will be donated to fund UN Women’s global programs for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. I feel very strongly about supporting women who are not free to pursue even the most basic goals, just because of their gender. It means a lot to me that TAG Heuer shares my desire to bring attention to wonderful organizations like UN Women.
The new photographs of you, shot by Tom Munro in the Hamptons, are beautiful – you look very fit and happy. What is your secret?
CD: I believe you should live your life with gratitude. The fact that I get to live my life as I choose and am free to pursue my passions and dreams is a privilege I will never take for granted. Therefore, I live my life with gratitude, which leaves me in need of nothing else and keeps a smile on my face and in my heart.
What is your take on social responsibility?
Cameron Diaz: It is very important that all of us, whether companies or individuals, strive to make our world a better place and I’m happy to be involved with a company that shares that philosophy.
Please tell us about your upcoming projects:
CD: My upcoming films include “Gambit,” with Colin Firth and Alan Rickman and I recently finished shooting “The Counselor,” with Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Michael Fassbender for director Ridley Scott. I am also working on a book focusing on health and wellness for young women, which will be out next year. Beyond that I’m not certain what’s next. I feel the scripts make the decisions for me – when it’s the right script, it kind of jumps out at me and I have to say yes.
You just turned 40. How do you feel about that?
CD: I’m so happy to finally be 40. It’s such a privilege to get older…the wisdom gained by living life is invaluable. I’m really enjoying the journey of gaining that wisdom and apply it to life. It feels like life is just beginning.
