Piazza di Spagna 9, like its name suggests, is located on the most desirable location in Rome. This luxury boutique hotel is tucked inside a private building in the center of the Eternal City, just meters away from the city’s main attraction, romantic Spanish Steps, and a little bit more from enchanting Fontana di Trevi. Fashion lovers will appreciate that all the designers stores will be in their sight like- Escada, Versace, Valentino, Chanel, Emilio Pucci, Longchamp, Louis Vuitton, Gucci etc. A true oasis amidst the frenzy of the city center with a magnificent view of Rome’s quintessential square is a concept in itself- it is a real contemporary art gallery and a boutique hotel.
As Vincent Van Gogh stated: “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together,” this sentence perfectly explains the special care for details of the owner, interior designer and art expert, Stefania Grippo. She aims to immerse her guests in art. There was a very special feeling from the moment we approached this prestigious Roman address, which just followed us through the whole time of our stay. Housed behind a heavy gate, with an entrance hidden from the curious looks, Piazza di Spagna 9 is a little miracle of contemporary design. Its concept is simply disarming: an intimate affair in the always crowded heart of Rome, with a breathtaking view. In the lobby area of PiazzadiSpagna9, as well as in the rooms, are exhibited both emerging and established artists. Their creative expression, combined with the artistic vision of Stefania Grippo gave us a special sense of freedom and visually very inspiring and beautiful surrounding. From the very first day, we had the opportunity to enjoy contemporary Italian art and design which gave us more understanding of their culture and made this experience quite unique and luxurious.
In 1800, this charming boutique hotel belonged to the German artist Franz Ludwig Catel, who made it one of the most illustrious salons in the capital. Today, PiazzadiSpagna9 is a labor of love of Stefania Grippo. She personally selected and designed all the furniture for this exclusive city retreat like Puntolargo Microcosmo sofa designed by Daniele Della Porta decorated with walnut wooden rings, console table by Gunderson, lamp by Sudedesign, eclipse coffee table, velvet mirror, the 9 coffee table as well as the 9 lounge chairs. An interesting fact is that these special limited edition designs are also available for purchase as are the artworks on the walls.

With only six rooms and 400 square meters of space, this modern masterpiece in interior design is a fairly small hotel. But, that just adds to the sense of exclusivity. Each of the rooms is unique in design, but similar in concept. The design is very modern, though undoubtedly elegant and luxurious in a sophisticated and unpretentious way. Beds are very comfortable with memory foam and covered with Egyptian cotton linens. The bathrooms are very spacious, colored in Earthly tones and covered with exclusive material with unique velvet, wooden or iron mirrors. They come with rain showers and natural L’Occitane toiletries inspired by the Mediterranean art-de-vivre. The hotel also has all the amenities you can think of, including the spa with Turkish steam room.
Junior suite graced with a tapestrie by German artist Tania Welz, and beautiful underwater fashion photography by Dirk Vogel.
PiazzadiSpagna9 boasts its own curated art gallery, with paintings and installations from the contemporary artists. The works frequently rotate, so chances are return visitors will always see something new! After the first Italian exhibition of Muriel Bordier, a French photographer and filmmaker from Rennes, a group show entitled “No Borders,” curated by Raffaela Salato also took place in this artistic accommodation. The exhibition is opening a dialogue between traditional and street art, with works of three street artists Riccardo Rapone in the art world known as Beetroot, Giusy Guerriero and Mauro Pallotta who goes by the name of Maupal.
Two works by Maupal are dedicated respectively to Pope Francis and the premier Conte..
