I am sitting in the front of my riad at Lodge K, a five-star luxury retreat near the Palmerai quarter of Marrakech. Surrounded by the seemingly endless oasis of palm trees, I’m looking at the circle pool in the middle. It is the fourth night of my stay at this picturesque place and the pool is beautifully lit with dozens of little candles around it. In front of my eyes, Lodge K transforms from the sun-kissed tropical paradise to the most romantic place in the world.
Lodge K at night
Everything is so peaceful at Lodge K and after couple of hours within its walls your pulse naturally starts to slow down. Here, all troubles seem so far away, as if you are simply forced to be carefree and happy. Surrounded by all that greenery, under the warm African Sun, you feel literally recharged. It was my first time in Marrakech and Lodge K was my first introduction to it. We have arrived late at night and when I stepped in it I was surprised by its nature. Everything seemed so beautiful and exotic. For our stay at Lodge K, we chose very luxurious and stylish Egyptian Lodge and it was pretty easy to fall in love with its dark walls, adorned with numerous details that make you feel like a mighty conqueror on its way to Cleopatra’s palace!
From the first night we got the feeling how our stay will look like. We were greeted by the very polite and highly professional staff that with every word and gesture showed us that here everything is made and designed to make you feel good. They will serve you lunch or dinner whenever you like. If you are laying by the pool and simply enjoying tranquility and warm weather, they will surprise you with delicious watermelon cocktails. If you wondered about Moroccan cuisine, it is one of the best in the world and it will please the most delicate tastes. In Lodge K you will enjoy perfect blend of Moroccan and international cuisine, always paired with good wine and for the desert you may enjoy famous patisserie, chocolate mousse, ice-cream cake and grandiose fruit plates. And when you are in Marrakech, I suggest replacing a coffee with a mint tea known as “Moroccan whiskey”.
Lodge K was opened some seven years ago and its concept is unique enough to make it prominent even within the realm of Marrakech’s luxury hotels and resorts. The size of the property is pretty large, especially for European standards, but number of the exclusive lodges is very limited, which makes this place private and romantic. There are five lodges- Egyptian, Art Deco, African, Master’s lodge and Balinais, each one different from another, with its own unique style and design theme. There are also three suites named- Ambre, Suite du Borj and Jasmin.
Art Deco lodge is obviously the most French of them all. 1930’s atmosphere is recreated by dozens of meticulously selected details that will transport you in that bygone era.
Art Deco lodge
Africain lodge owes its design cues to the always inspiring Dark Continent. Once you are inside, you cannot but to stare at multitudes of masks and statues that makes you immediately feel the magical vibes of Africa, both colonial and precolonial.
Balinais lodge is the second-largest in the retreat. Its 150 sqm are designed to recreate the look of a traditional Indonesian house. Many details that originate from Asia are present here: from the pieces of Javanese art, to the Buddha head and selection of different woods, like tamarind from India and litchi wood from China. This lodge is equipped with its own private swimming pool and large windows for the plethora of natural light.
Master’s lodge is Lodge K’s version of Presidential suite. Designed in Oriental style, with details ranging from Berber carpets to the Arabian fireplace, Master lodge is not only the largest (230 sqm), but also the most luxurious one. Being lost in its splendor, you can easily immerse into the realm of the Arabian Nights, mysterious and romantic at the same time.
If you want to book a massage or beauty treatment, Sanaa Abouhanine will be there to prepare for you facial mask especially made for your skin type, with local ingredients such as: avocado, banana, pineapple, cucumber, tomato …. Massage at Lodge K lasts more then one hour, maybe even two. It is hard to tell exactly, because at their SPA time stops, and you have only one assignment- to relax! I suggest you to try different beauty treatments and Moroccan hammam with body scrub. This is the key treatment for Moroccan beauty which is part of their tradition.
So, I am sitting next to the circular swimming pool. The night is still young, but the atmosphere is already enchanting. Looking at the starlit sky that reflects its light in the still water, I am peaceful and calm as never before, thanks to the Lodge K in Marrakech, a truly dreamlike place, so soothing for body and soul alike.
