Hotel Selman Marrakech quickly attracted a fashionable crowd from the entire world. This August we had a chance to visit it too, and we can confirm that this is the place to be! A mixture of rich and incredibly sophisticated interiors, influenced with Moroccan traditional style, are masterly designed by Jacques Garcia. This legendary French architect and creative genius is behind many marvelous works in Paris such as the interiors of Hotel Costes, Fouquet’s Barrière, Le Royal Monceau…, and in Marrakech the iconic hotel La Mamounia. Hotel Selman Marrakech is not only a perfect place to stay, but also an astonishing place to dine. Its three restaurants present a combination of wonderful flavors from different parts of the globe. We enjoyed our dinner at Selman’s namesake restaurant with a view over the palm-lined pool- the magical setting for an evening that will forever be in our memory.
At the Selman restaurant, Jacques Garcia‘s combination of French “art nouveau“ and more traditional Moroccan and Berber style is simply stunning. This blending of different styles by creating a new one, so emblematic for the legendary French architect, is the most visible here. It is a very chic and extremely luxurious place with high ceilings, purple furniture and draperies, antique carpets, crystal chandeliers and a large fireplace that creates more intimate atmosphere.
We started our dinner with nicely prepared Passion fruit Martini, a drink that we tried for the first time. It was a true revelation to us, and a perfect introduction to an amazing dinner. While entertaining ourselves with a delicious selection of Moroccan salads and Almonds chicken pastilla, we were enjoying electro lounge music. Everything was very elegant and intimate. The staff was very assertive and pleasant, and simply they made our night even more memorable. The service here is at the highest level, as you may expect at the most prestigious hotels. We patiently waited for our main courses – a Fish tagine with Argan oil and a masterfully prepared Beef Tangia Marrakchia. Every meal was more surprising with real abundance of tastes, since Moroccan cuisine is so spice-centric. For the main course you may also choose Range chicken tagine with confit lemon, Talouine’s Saffron and olives or for example Vegeterian couscous. After few glasses of the finest Moroccan wine, the time has come for the dessert. We opted for the absolutely wonderful Chocolate Soufflé, filled with warm chocolate sauce and served alongside excellent ice cream, and Orange with cinnamon and dates. What a sweet ending to a wonderful dinner!
Hotel Selman is located approximately seven km southwest of always crowded Djemma el-Fna square in the Old City of Marrakech. Its position makes it a fairly secluded place for the relaxation of both body and soul, with busy city life of Medina lurking right around the corner. This impressive five-star luxury hotel is without a doubt, one of the best that Marrakech has to offer.
