In the heart of the Grands Boulevards district close to the Opera and the Louvre, on the edge of old Paris and its suburbs, the hotel l’Echiquier Opera Paris MGallery Collection by Sofitel opens its doors to a journey through Paris of the Belle Époque. This period, literally translated as the “beautiful era” in English, marks a time of rejuvenation in the French capital towards the end of the 19th century.
All Sofitel hotels present the new French art de vivre and luxurious French hospitality, and L’Echiquier Opéra Paris hotel is another perfect example of their highly refined approach. Staying in the prestigious Sofitel’s hotel is always a smart move, and in the case of L’Echiquier Opéra Paris, not only that we enjoyed the hotel itself, but also one of the most interesting parts of Paris, with so many museums, cabarets and theaters. Thanks to the hotel’s strategic location during our stay we could easily visit the main attractions such as: the Musee d’Orsay, Folie Bergere, Montmartre, the Champs-Élysées, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Eiffel Tower, Le Marais… Paris’s most famous music hall, Folie Bergere, is just couple minutes away.
The story of Folie Bergere music hall is the story of Paris by night and every singer and dancer who has made it big in this capital- from Josephine Baker, Charlie Chaplin to Maurice Chevalier.
The overall atmosphere of L’Echiquier Opéra Paris is warm and cozy, luxurious without a doubt, with a touch of typical French nonchalance, that simply wins you over and over. Hotel comprises 88 rooms, including 12 suits, all designed in Art Nouveau style, with necessary touches of modern. The rooms are not too large, but spacious enough to accommodate even the most demanding guests.
After a long day of exploring this part of the city we were invited by hotel’s manager to relax at the bar with special cocktails made by very well trained bartender. This marvelous bar and restaurant became our favorite spot during our stay, simply because reminded us on the Paris in 20s, like in the movie “Midnight in Paris” where Owen Wilson met Josephine Baker, Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway…
Restaurant and bar
The next day, we went down for a breakfast. “Good morning Madame, good morning Sir,” how nice it is to be welcomed with a smile in the early hours of the morning. After being shown to our table, it was time to discover the buffet. First thing that we wanted to try are croissants, and here they were just delicious. Buttery, fluffy and crunchy at the same time, all the ingredients are mixed to perfection. To have an even more detailed and complete idea of breakfast, we ordered poached eggs, cold ham and pancakes. The textures and feelings of this plate were extraordinary.
Decorated with taste, infused with an inviting atmosphere and with a very helpful and friendly staff, L’Echiquier Opéra Paris is deservedly another star of Sofitel group.
