Paris is a spectacular city, where every building is a work of art, every street, every quarter brings that special “La Bohème” nostalgic feeling where we wish to return to the time when all of the great artists were mingling there, like Van Gogh or Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, or to listen to Edith Piaf sings “La Vie en rose” . .. The city of lights as a fashion mecca attracts world fashion lovers, like us, to places that are associated with fashion, like Place Vendôme, a grandiose setting that embody absolute power in the very heart of Paris. The world’s great jewellery brands have turned Place Vendôme and the adjoining Rue de la Paix into one continuous stream of window displays filled with sparkling diamonds, rubies and emeralds. This place is home of Chopard, Rolex, Chanel among many high fashion brands but also some spectacular hotels. We stayed at the key location, number 1 Place Vendôme, and the Hôtel de Vendôme, that is actually owned by luxury timepiece and jewelry brand Chopard whose iconic store is located in the ground floor.
Hôtel de Vendôme is extremely convenient to Paris’s most celebrated attractions. Just steps away from the hotel’s doors are the Jardin des Tuileries, Musée du Louvre, National Opera, fashionable Rue Saint-Honoré and the iconic concept store Colette.
View from the Hôtel de Vendôme
One of the capital’s most legendary hotels, Hôtel de Vendôme, was built in 1723 by Armand-Claude Molet (architect of the Elysée Palace, the official residence of the president of the French Republic) for Pierre Perrin, secretary to Louis XIV. The building was originally a palatial private residence and had also been the Texas embassy in 1842 during a time when France was the only country to recognize the state’s bid for independence from the United States. In 2014, Chopard‘s co-presidents Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele made the very intelligent decision to purchase the Hôtel de Vendôme to ensure the group will always be able to keep its boutique – Chopard‘s flagship store in Paris – on the ground floor of the luxury hotel. The purchase of the hotel also provided a platform for the family to branch into another segment of the luxury lifestyle business.
The hotel has luxurious feel all the way, from the location that guarantees very special view, rooms with Second Empire antique furniture, art deco styling and fine art to the recently renovated 1 Place Vendôme restaurant and bar with stylish haute couture houndstooth and “Dior grey” décor. Both the restaurant’s and bar’s interiors were designed by the acclaimed Italian interior designer Michele Bonan.
1 Place Vendôme restaurant
Hôtel de Vendôme comprises nineteen elegant rooms and ten suites of classic French design including plenty of luscious marble and high-quality woods. There are interesting contrasts in the rooms and suites, each with unique design and décor. Spacious rooms have a homey feel thanks to the choices of materials and comfortable furnishings. Extravagant chandeliers seen throughout Hôtel de Vendôme create glamorous atmosphere.
Restaurant features a seasonally-focused menu by up-and-coming Chef Josselin Marie. The bar 1 Place Vendôme is a perfect place to relax after sightseeing, shopping and exploring.
The Scheufeles are planning to extensively renovate the building in the years to come in order to make this extraordinary 5-star hotel shine even more brightly in the firmament of the French luxury hotel scene.
We would to say special thanks to Stéphane Petrovski for making our stay even more enjoyable.
